About me

My name is Rikard Öqvist. I am a creative acoustician and dapper multi-instrumentalist. I use this site as a creative outlet where I publish all my ideas, unfiltered and authentic.

I am a musician who loves the art of engineering and I learn a new musical instrument every year. I use my musical experience to design wooden buildings. A musical instrument consists of wood that have been refined to produce as much sound as possible. Luthiers have known how to do this for over 500 years. Why don't we use their knowledge and do the exact opposite? I.e. refine wood to produce as little sound as possible. I am convinced this concept will produce the optimal wooden construction.

Throughout my career, my work and research have focussed on acoustics in wooden buildings: measurement technique, perception and calculations. Since 2019, I am a partner at Acouwood, where we integrate acoustic perception and function in the sustainable buildings of the future.

I also work as an adjunct associate professor in Building technology at Umeå University. I love education, especially distance and E-learning! Through education we can create real sustainability.
