One year and 52 blogs later
Today is a one-year anniversary! This is my 52nd weekly blog post. A year goes by quickly. It is amazing how much easier the writing process is now, compared to the first one or two months. The friction is all but gone now. Writing is an incredibly useful and valuable skill, and I am glad I started this habit. I have now reached a point where I can decide to sit down, write a blog post, and publish it. Even if I start from scratch and no idea what to write about, I can produce something. And that is often enough. Something always beat Nothing.
The purpose of this blog at least the first year, has been to establish a writing habit. The important thing is to get started and get that content out there. When you have got the process going and the content is being generated, it is 10X easier to iterate and evolve. It’s always the first step that is the most difficult, in any domain. But as soon as you get started, it becomes easier. Just like mechanics. The torque on an axle is always maximum when the rotation starts from a standstill. But once the system has been set in motion, less torque is required. For now, I will keep my weekly posts every Saturday, but I also know that I am standing at a crossroad. This blog and my vlogs aren’t going anywhere unless I adapt and improve. It is time to align my content and focus on something specific.
My idea is to extend my presence on LinkedIn with daily vlogs about acoustics. I have tons of content ready to go from my university lectures, but very few people have the time and interest to go through tens of hours of material. But I have a feeling that it should work rather nicely to just grab one out of my hundreds of slides and do a vlog or livestream about that. It’s not like I will ever run out of topic and ideas to talk about, even if I publish daily. And on the weekends, I will rest. Let’s try it for a week and see how it goes!
During this year, I have received feedback and messages from readers, and I know that what I have written has had a positive effect on others. Even if it is only one person, it was worth it and it truly warms my heart. Because I know, that if what I have written has helped or added value to one (1) person, there must be at least 1000 more out there. And each one of them knows about 1000 people, so that’s one million right there. Most people cannot see God because they do not look low enough. To improve the world is never about any one single big effort. It is about the thousands of small things that we do every single day. Throw a stone in a pond and watch the ripples form. One little stone will create ripples that can touch the whole pond. That stone could be one little act of kindness and every little act has the potential to change the world. How you do anything is how you do everything.
I highly recommend that you start a writing habit yourself. As soon as you write your thoughts down, they become specific and can be acted upon, iterated, and improved. If they only reside inside your mind, they are abstract, and it is impossible to act upon them in the same goal-oriented way. Another nice benefit is that a blog, vlog or a journal is like a window in time to your past self. You can really understand and see your personal growth.
Anyway, this blog was just a long ramble of words, but it’s okay to do that sometimes too. It’s a one-year anniversary and I will celebrate by grabbing a nice cup of coffee, as soon as I have published this text according to the principle “Done is better that perfect”.
